GODS LIKE US (Series)

Manuel Rees

Gods Like Us is a powerful mini-series that takes viewers to the edge of modern science where the fight for life, health, and happiness leads to choices once thought unimaginable. Through the deeply personal stories of patients and the controversial scientists trying to help them, the series explores the real life consequences of humanity’s most radical medical innovations.

Jörg and Bernd are both alive thanks to artificial hearts but their machines are running out of time. In Germany, researchers are breeding genetically modified pigs to offer a startling solution: transplanting animal hearts into humans. Thomas, battling severe depression, agrees to have electrodes implanted in his brain in an experimental attempt to regulate his emotions. And Lena, part of a deaf family, faces pressure to genetically alter her future children in the hope they might hear raising the question: is deafness a disability or a culture?

Across three emotional and eye-opening episodes, Gods Like Us challenges our assumptions about life, death, and the human body. Should we embrace everything science can offer in the name of survival or are we crossing ethical lines we can't return from?
