Uncommitted

Razi Jafri

Uncommitted is an investigative documentary about the rise and fallout of a protest vote movement launched by Arab and Muslim American organizers during the 2024 U.S. presidential election. In response to the Biden-Harris administration’s support for Israel during the Gaza war, activists mobilize voters to select “uncommitted” in the Democratic primaries, transforming a local protest into a national political flashpoint.

What begins as a symbolic act quickly grows into a powerful movement. With more than 100,000 “uncommitted” votes in Michigan alone and growing support across the country, the campaign forces Gaza into the center of American political debate and exposes deep fractures within the Democratic coalition.

But as the election unfolds, the movement faces mounting backlash. When Kamala Harris loses the general election, activists find themselves blamed for weakening the very coalition they once helped build, turning a protest meant to demand accountability into a national political controversy.

Through intimate access to the organizers behind the campaign, Uncommitted follows the human and political consequences of dissent within party politics, exploring what happens when voters decide that loyalty to a party must give way to conscience.
